story quilt art - faith ringgold
We created a story about our lives just like the artist Faith Ringgold. Students used real fabric to make a quilt while we talked about patterns and fabrics, colors and textures.
hoot hoot for winter owls!
We read the book Owl Moon and explored texture on owls from our previous project, texture swatches.
We used mixed media with paints, oil pastels, and egg cartons to create our own unique owls. Each owl really expresses each student's personality with color, texture, and painting techniques!

Birds, trees, hot air balloons, dragonflies oh my!
First graders used their drawing skills to create different themed artwork for their classrooms. We explored the difference of warm and cool colors as we were exploring Fall. We then used our drawing and collaging skills to create cool colored subjects in their art work to show contrasting colors.
dia de los muertos
We studied the holiday, traditions, and culture this October and created Day of the Dead Skulls with paint, oil pastels, and tissue paper.
"very busy spider", Eric carle inspired artwork = very busy students!
First graders learned about Eric Carl's artwork, read the book "The Very Busy Spider" and created their own spider art.
We learned to layer our artwork by creating a background painting, then added oil pastel for our web, and cut paper for our fences. We were very busy students, creating hand-made papers to use for the spiders. These turned out fabulous and perfect for October!
